GIANADDA CONFERENCE “FROM MANET TO KELLY, THE ART OF THE IMPRINT”_Megève

Gianadda Lecture: ‘From Manet to Kelly, the Art of Imprinting’

In collaboration with the Institut national d’histoire de l’art in Paris, Martha Degiacomi, art historian at the Fondation Pierre Gianadda in Martigny, will give a lecture entitled “From Manet to Kelly, the art of the imprint.”

In 1992, the Pierre Gianadda Foundation successfully presented a selection of prints from the collection assembled in Paris by fashion designer and patron Jacques Doucet in the early 20th century. Entitled "From Goya
to Matisse," this exhibition revealed to the public the importance and place of engraving in art history! Thirty-four years later, the National Institute of Art History, heir to the art and archaeology library founded by Doucet, documents in this new exhibition at the Foundation the incredible inventiveness in the practice of engraving through the centuries by presenting a selection of 170 prints that establish a dialogue between ancient and contemporary works: selected works by Francisco de Goya, Edouard Manet, Mary Cassatt, Georges Braque, and Henri Matisse.
